WEIGHT: 20.1 GRAMS
Commemorative Cross – Queen Margherita di Savoia – Italy, 1926 – Bronze
This rare Italian commemorative bronze cross was made in memory of Queen Margherita of Savoy (1851–1926), the first Queen of unified Italy and an iconic figure of charity and religious devotion.
The front side features an image of the Pietà (Virgin Mary mourning Christ), surrounded by the inscription:
“Pro Casa Riposo – F.C.G. Firenze” (likely referring to a charitable house or hospital in Florence).
It also shows her birth and death dates: “Torino 20-11-1851 / Bordighera 4-1-1926”.
The back carries a benediction from Cardinal Alfonso Mistrangelo, Archbishop of Florence:
“E la benedizione del Signore non mancherà ai generosi cooperatori di un’opera così pietosa e santa”
(“The Lord’s blessing will not fail those generous cooperators of such a pious and holy work.”)
Condition: Very good, with natural age-related patina. Rich detailing, no structural damage.
A unique devotional and historical item with strong ties to Italian royal and religious history. Ideal for collectors of ecclesiastical or royal memorabilia.
