Suica is a prepaid electronic money convenient for transportation and shopping.
There is no need to buy a ticket from a vending machine; simply touch Suica to the ticket gate and the fare will be automatically deducted from Suica.
Suica can be used on trains, subways, buses, and monorails. Suica can also be used for electronic payments. Traveling in Japan is made even more comfortable with Suica.
For initial purchase, the fee includes a 500 yen deposit.
When the balance becomes low, it can be recharged by cash at any “automatic ticket vending machine,” “multi-function ticket vending machine,” or “Norikoshi settlement machine” marked with the national symbol mark for mutual use.
There are six different amounts that can be charged in one transaction: 500 yen, 1,000 yen, 2,000 yen, 3,000 yen, 5,000 yen, and 10,000 yen, and you can deposit up to 20,000 yen as many times as you like.
When going out, simply touch the Suica card to the reader at the ticket gate; there is no need to purchase a ticket from a vending machine.
The fare is automatically calculated at the station where you get off.The fare is calculated at the station when you get off the train, but you must charge your Suica card if you do not have enough money in your balance.
Money charged to Suica can be used not only on trains, but also at convenience stores, shopping centers, restaurants, and other stores. It can also be used at stores in some private railway and subway stations.
