Up for sale is an original 1920s Western Electric Model 540-AW cone speaker frame and driver mechanism. This is an authentic piece of early radio history, perfect for a restoration project, a source for hard-to-find original parts, or an industrial repurposing project (such as a custom desk lamp).
Condition Details:
• Driver Mechanism: The original horseshoe magnet driver is structurally intact, complete, and attached to the rear frame housing. The driving pin and coils are present (see photos). Please note: The unit is untested for electrical continuity.
• Frame & Base: The iconic circular metal frame, protective mesh grille, top carrying handle, and octagonal base are all present and sturdy. It features a beautiful, untouched vintage patina with expected minor surface wear, paint flaking, and oxidation consistent with its 100-year age.
• Missing Components: The original outer 18-inch paper cone/diaphragm has completely deteriorated over the years and is not included. The original cloth-covered cord is attached but shows heavy fraying and wear.
Please review all photos carefully to assess the cosmetic condition and completeness of the driver unit. Selling strictly AS-IS for parts, repair, or restoration.
