First Hand Account Of Life In Eufaula, Alabama, By Author Victoria Hunter Clayton (1832 - 1908) circa starting around 1840s? - Stories About Whites/Blacks/African Americans - Pre Civil War/Post Civil War/Post Reconstruction - Her Thoughts, Opinions, Stories, Names Of African Americans/Roles - She was about 67 when this book was written but it goes back to her childhood memories
Her father was John Lingard Hunter - plantation owner in Eufaula, Alabama (formerly known as Irwinton AL she says)
195 pages - great detail about life in Eufaula AL (and sometimes other areas) relating to whites & blacks - probably from 1840s? 1850s, and so on. She seems to want to make Northerners have a better understanding of the south/Civil War through her book, and through her eyes as a white woman in the mid to late 1800s, in the south
Introduction by Frederic Cook Morehouse (a \"Northerner\") - his wife\'s name is written inside book (Lilias E. Morehouse)

She also discussed fighting with Native Americans in Alabama in mid 1800s
She does mention Maum Kate (the washwoman), Maum Eva (the nurse), Maum Louisa (the cook), Uncle Abram (cared for horses), Harriet (\"my cook\"), Ned (cultivated the field) etc - she describes what their days were like work wise, and what they ate, when they rested, living conditions, etc
Book is very detailed and a historical resource for further information on day to day life for African Americans and Caucasians during this time
Condition: all pages present, some pencil writing on various pages, wear to covers, spots inside/outside, back cover with white spot - does not appear to be mold (not 100% sure but pretty sure it\'s just blue coloring is missing), when opened in center it appears pages are separated at center a bit but intact (not sure what to call this), from smoke free environment
