Original real photo postcard, circa 1910s–1920s, depicting a traditional Kalinga tattoo practitioner tattooing a young woman’s arm in the Philippines. The two are seated on a woven mat with tattooing implements and small bowls visible between them. Printed caption along the lower edge appears to read “315 Kalinga Tattooer.”
An unusual early photographic view documenting traditional Indigenous tattooing practices in the northern Philippines. Particularly interesting material relating to tattoo history, ethnography, and Philippine cultural history.
Vintage condition with age toning, scattered spotting, corner and edge wear, and staining on the reverse. Unused postcard back.
