Offered here is a 5-piece lot of original real photo postcards (RPPCs) depicting the estate known as “KNOLLWOOD,” Dublin, New Hampshire. The cards are standard postcard size (approx. 3 1/2\" x 5 1/2\") and feature multiple exterior views of the large shingle-style mansion and its landscaped grounds.

The photographs show sweeping lawns, wraparound porches with classical supports, multiple chimneys, cultivated garden plots, and mature trees surrounding the residence—classic features of Dublin’s early 20th-century summer colony estates in the Monadnock region.

All five cards have VELOX divided backs and appear unused. Condition is very good overall with typical light age toning and minor handling wear; please review images for exact condition.

  • Knollwood is a major historic summer estate (“cottage”) in Dublin, NH, situated with panoramic views toward Mount Monadnock.

  • It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (listed 1983, ref 83004039).

Construction date, architect, style
  • Built 1899–1900 (often simply cited as “built 1900”).

  • Designed by the prominent Boston firm Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge.

  • Style is commonly described as Colonial Revival / Georgian in modern writeups and listings.

Original owner and later ownership
  • Built for Franklin MacVeagh (a banker; later U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, 1909–1913).

  • Later purchased by Ernest Henderson (widely described as a founder of Sheraton Hotels), and the property remained in that family line for decades (including Augusta Petrone and Mitzi Perdue in recent coverage).

“Presidential” / notable-guest history (how to word it safely)
  • Multiple sources say President William Howard Taft visited/was hosted at Knollwood during MacVeagh’s tenure, and some describe it as an occasional “summer White House” type setting.

  • Claims that Mark Twain spent time there appear in marketing/listing-style writeups; I’d treat that as attributed lore unless you want to hunt down a primary-source confirmation.

Where it is today
  • Current address in active listings: 4 Windmill Hill Road, Dublin, NH 03444 (large acreage; 13BR; ~14,500 sf in recent listings).
