Real photo postcard showing an early automobile traveling the Lincoln Highway along the Juniata River, near the Hotel Pennsylvania, just east of Bedford, Pennsylvania. Sepia-tone image with roadside telegraph poles and heavy trees bordering the unpaved highway — a striking early-20th-century motoring view along America’s first transcontinental route.
The postcard was mailed from Bedford, PA, August 9, 1923, bearing a green 1¢ Washington stamp, and is addressed to Mrs. Frances Rock, Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania. The handwritten message reads in part: “We are having a wonderful trip. Stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania over night... ready to start for Tyrone...” and is signed Sue S. Noble.
