Authentic Southern Pacific Golden Gate Ferries, Ltd. Uniform Button
For your consideration is a rare, historically significant uniform button from the Southern Pacific Golden Gate Ferries, Ltd. This firm was the dominant maritime transit force in the San Francisco Bay Area from 1929 until the completion of the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges in the late 1930s.
Design Details:
• Obverse: Features the initials "S.P.G." over "FERRIES LTD." on a clean, lined field.
• Reverse: Features the crisp backmark: "WATERBURY BUTTON CO. CONN."
• Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The face shows sharp lettering and minimal wear. The shank is intact and straight. (Please see high-resolution photos for exact condition details).
Historical Significance:
Formed in 1929 through the merger of Southern Pacific’s ferry fleet and the Golden Gate Ferry Co., this entity operated the world’s largest auto ferry fleet during its peak. These buttons were worn by ferry personnel during a transformative decade in California transportation history.
