1944 WWII Soldier Love Letter Future Wife $30 Pay Allotment Valentine APO 25:
$49.97

Original February 26, 1944 WWII love letter written by Pfc. John “Johnny” Omniewski to his sweetheart Josephine “Jo” while serving overseas with Company E, 35th Infantry, APO 25.

Written on multiple sheets of very thin wartime paper, with some pages written on both sides. The thin paper and writing showing through from the reverse give this letter a particularly authentic wartime appearance.

This is an especially personal letter in which Johnny discusses the future he hopes to build with Jo after the war.

He tells Jo that he is saving as much money as possible while in the service and explains that $30 each month is being taken directly from his Army pay and sent home to his mother to save “for my future.” He encourages Jo, whom he calls his “future wife,” to save money as well.

Johnny also thanks Jo for the Valentine she sent him, discusses the Valentine he sent her, asks about her family and friends, and encourages her to visit his sister and family.

Another fascinating section concerns Johnny\'s dental troubles. He writes that one tooth is going bad and needs to be pulled, that an abscess has formed underneath it, and that he is suffering from toothaches. He discusses having the tooth removed and eventually having dental work done.

Despite his circumstances, Johnny closes with affection and optimism, writing that he hopes and prays the war will end soon so that he and Jo can “be united once again forever.”

The original airmail envelope is included, postmarked U.S. Army Postal Service APO, February 28, 1944, with Army Examiner censorship stamp. Johnny\'s return address identifies him as Pfc. John L. Omniewski, Company E, 35th Infantry, APO 25.

Historical context: Johnny did not survive the war, making his repeated plans for marriage and a future with Josephine particularly poignant.

Original wartime correspondence with folds, edge wear and age-related condition. Paper is extremely thin and some writing shows through from the opposite side. Please review all photographs for exact condition and contents.
