Pre-owned vintage condition. Both boxes contain wooden matches, but I do not know whether either box contains its original complete number of matches. I also cannot confirm whether any matches have previously been removed or used. The striker surfaces show age/wear, so these are not being represented as unused or unstruck. Boxes show normal age and storage wear. Please review all photographs carefully for exact condition and contents.
Description:
Lot of two original vintage Windows on the World restaurant matchboxes from the original World Trade Center in New York City.
Windows on the World was the renowned restaurant complex located on the upper floors of the North Tower of the World Trade Center, with these boxes specifically identifying the 107th Floor. The restaurant opened in 1976 and remained a New York landmark until the destruction of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. 911 Memorial Collection
Both matchboxes feature the classic “WINDOWS ON THE WORLD” design on the front. The reverse lists:
The Restaurant
The Cellar in the Sky
The City Lights Bar
Hors d’Oeuvrerie
The Statue of Liberty Lounge
107th Floor
New York World Trade Center
[phone removed by ]
Both are also marked “Product of Japan” and Universal Match Corp., St. Louis along the sides.
Both boxes still contain wooden matches with white heads. I do not know the original match count and cannot confirm that either box is complete. I also cannot confirm whether any matches have previously been used or removed. No claims are being made that these are unused, unstruck, or new-old-stock.
The boxes themselves remain in good vintage condition with some expected age/storage wear, including wear to the striker surfaces, edges and corners. The graphics and printing remain clearly visible.
These are collectible pieces of New York City and original World Trade Center restaurant memorabilia.
You will receive the exact two Windows on the World matchboxes and matches shown in the photographs. Please use all photos as an important part of the condition description.
