Very cool handcrafted Native American item
Hand-stamped craftwork from the early 20th century, where the ancient whirling log symbol was used as a traditional design of well-beingThe
Whirling Log Symbol: The front features the sacred traditional Navajo symbol Náhółhis (the whirling log), representing the four cardinal directions, healing, and good fortune. Because the symbol was later misappropriated by the Nazi regime, Native American artists collectively signed a decree to entirely stop using it on their artwork after 1938–1940,•
The tiny, repetitive serrated markings bordering the inner curve of the crescent moon mimic traditional Southwest sunburst or cloud stampings commonly found on Fred Harvey era pieces to signify natural elements like rain or changing weather.
The Pointed Sunbursts: Located just beneath the whirling log symbol, these circular bursts with radiating lines are smaller variations of the sunburst or starburst stamp. They typically signify the sun, cosmic energy, or constancy.
The Star: Embedded inside the curve of the moon, the star represents a guidance symbol, constant presence, and cosmic harmony.
The Crescent Moon: Symbolizes protection, femininity, fertility, and the natural cycles of life. In traditional lore, the waning crescent moon represents a time for rest, introspection, and quiet renewal.
Together, these stamps complement the whirling log symbol on the handle to complete a thematic landscape of well-being, luck, and guidance.
