Antique English Cobalt Blue Jasperware Salt & Pepper Shakers – Neoclassical Pegasus (EPNS Tops)
A striking pair of late Victorian to early Edwardian English cobalt blue jasperware condiment shakers.
Crafted in deep cobalt blue stoneware with crisp white sprigged bas-relief decoration in the classical Wedgwood/Staffordshire tradition. The continuous frieze depicts mythological scenes including Bellerophon tending winged Pegasus, surrounded by classical figures under trees.
The set includes one pierced-top shaker for pepper and a coordinated single-spout pourer for salt. Both shakers are mounted with their original silver-plated collars marked EPNS.
Markings: Collars stamped EPNS with maker\'s mark; bases unglazed and unmarked
Origin: England, circa 1890–1915
Packaging:Bubble-wrapped for safe transit.
Condition Report
Porcelain Bodies: Excellent Antique Condition. Both stoneware bodies are structurally sound with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs along the bodies or foot rims.
Sprigged Relief: Neoclassical white relief work is exceptionally crisp and well-adhered, with no broken limbs, missing leaves, or major losses.
Necks & Upper Rims: Ceramic necks under the collars show original luster/silvering and light vintage mounting residue/patina, but no ceramic fractures.
Metal Tops (EPNS): Both silver-plated tops exhibit authentic antique wear, including surface tarnish, patina, and expected plate loss/rubbing to the nickel base metal around the collar rims. Tops fit snugly as intended.
