Antique Footed Majolica Pitcher. Very graceful and unusual design. The body of the pitcher sits on a slender little "tree stump." The cream-colored background is molded to resemble the texture of tree bark, and there is a motif of vibrant green leaves and pink/burgundy flower clusters. The handle is styled like a tree branch. We're unsure of the origin of this beautiful piece, but we suspect England, because it resembles strongly the work of Shorter & Boulton, in particular the tree stump "feet," the branch handle, and the rich colors. Shorter & Boulton produced Majolica in the late Nineteenth Century. The underside of the pitcher reveals a maker's mark "R." The condition is wonderful. Do examine our photographs to see the usual surface of a lovingly timeworn piece. Dimensions are approximately 7 1/2 inches tall, 6 1/2 inches wide, 3 1/2 inches deep. From the estate of an interior designer whose passion was Majolica, this is quite a special piece.
