Beautiful vintage hand-carved wooden dough bowl / trenching tray measuring approximately 20” long x 10.5” wide x 3.5” tall. This primitive elongated oval-style bowl has a classic rustic form with shallow, flat-rimmed ends and a wonderful naturally aged patina.
The interior displays rich, dark coloration along with visible historical tool marks, reflecting decades of traditional use. The bottom is hand-signed or marked “Hird,” adding an interesting piece of character and provenance. Acquired from a Vermont sale house.
The exact wood species is unknown, but the construction and appearance are consistent with a North American hardwood such as maple or birch. Based on its style, construction, and provenance, it is highly possible that this piece originated from New England, although the exact place of manufacture and origin cannot be confirmed.
A fantastic piece for a farmhouse, primitive, country, or rustic collection and would make an excellent centerpiece or decorative display.
Good vintage/antique condition with exceptional character. Shows natural wear, light surface scratches, and a beautiful aged patina consistent with age and use.
