Heavy handmade steel lobster-tail style helmet, patterned after 17th-century European armor.
Originally acquired as an unidentified older European-style helmet. After further research and review by collectors specializing in 17th-century armor, the consensus is that the construction and overall skull form do not correspond to an authentic 17th-century example and that this should be considered a later reproduction.
Exact age and country of manufacture remain unknown. It may be an older 19th or early 20th-century reproduction; no maker’s marks or identifying stamps have been found.
* Approx. weight: 2.5 lb
* Approx. lower circumference: 26”
* Steel thickness: approx. 1.7–2.6 mm
* Two-piece steel skull
* Riveted cheek guards
* Articulated lobster-tail neck plates
* Rolled/folded edges
* Remnants of aged leather at cheek attachments
* Heavy oxidation, patina and surface wear throughout
* Some fittings/components absent
Very substantial construction with an excellent aged display appearance. Sold accurately as a reproduction / historicist helmet, not as original 17th-century armor.
