For sale is a beautiful, authentic pair of antique Victorian studio portraits dating from the late 19th Century (circa 1870sā1880s).
This matched pair features a dignified man and woman dressed in formal period attire. Both subjects are posed against identical studio furniture, including a heavily padded, fringed Victorian armchair, strongly indicating they represent a husband and wife or family members photographed during the same studio session.
The portraits remain securely housed in their magnificent, matching antique molded oak wood frames. Each frame features an elegant, inset gold gilt bevel liner and sits behind glass with its original light paper border mats.
šø EXTRA VISUAL DETAILS & ATTIRE:
⢠Woman's Portrait: Depicts a woman wearing a dark Victorian dolman mantle cape with distinct decorative bottom fringe, a high-styled formal bonnet, lace-patterned fingerless mitts/gloves, and holding a parasol or walking cane next to a lion-carved pedestal table.
⢠Man's Portrait: Depicts a gentleman wearing a three-piece suit with broad lapels, a visible waistcoat watch chain/fob, a dark trilby/fedora-style felt hat, and holding a polished walking stick.
š CONDITION REPORT:
⢠Portraits: Excellent antique condition with beautiful sepia/toned clarity. Minimal aging to the photo surfaces.
⢠Frames & Glass: The oak frames are sturdy and retain a gorgeous warm patina. Glass is intact with no cracks. Some separation at the corners.
⢠Backing: The reverse side features the original brown paper dust covers. The paper has become brittle over time with expected tearing along the edges and historic water staining on the lower corner of one frame (as pictured). This backing has never been cut open, but the wear has allowed visible particles into the frame, which adds to its charm. No external manufacturer markings are visible.
