Up for sale is a charming, authentic 19th-century late-Victorian portrait housed in its original oval clamshell travel case.
The Photograph:
Features an outdoor portrait of a young boy dressed in classic late-Victorian attire, including a tailored jacket, short trousers, and an oversized bow tie. He is captured sitting casually on porch steps. The image shows characteristic soft sepia tones and minor edge fading/silver mirroring appropriate for an early paper print of this era.
The Case:
A classic oval clamshell design. The interior features a soft, contrasting fabric lining on the lid. The original brass push-button clasp mechanism is completely intact and functional, holding the case shut securely.
Condition Notes:
This is an authentic, untouched antique item showing honest historic wear. Please note that the majority of the original plush velvet pile has worn away over the last century, exposing the woven brown base fabric underneath. The dark purple patches visible on the exterior are the remaining remnants of the original deep plum velvet pile. The case retains its original brass push-button clasp which functions well. The internal glass, brass matting, and frame remain structurally sound and secure. The backing board has been checked and is clean.
