Up for your consideration is a beautiful prehistoric hardstone axe head featuring an exceptionally deep, well-defined three-quarter groove. This artifact boasts a phenomenal profile with a high ridge definition along the hafting groove, showing expert ancient pecking and grinding methods. The stone has a rich, dark brownish-gray composition with beautiful golden-tan mottling and spackling throughout.

Providence and History:
This piece has been held in a private collection for over 35 years. It was personally acquired from a single-owner estate sale of a homeowner who had sold his farm in Southern Illinois and moved to Florida. Based on the estate contents, it is strongly believed to have been a personal farm find from that Southern Illinois region.

Excellent ancient condition with superb eye appeal and deep groove definition.

Absolutely no modern chips and no hairline cracks.
The bit (cutting edge) and poll (butt end) remain remarkably well-preserved for a tool of this age.
