AVENGERS #7 — the issue where Asgard's exiles land on Earth and start recruiting.
Cover-dated August 1964, "Their Darkest Hour!" is the story that folds Thor's mythology into the Avengers permanently. Odin banishes the Enchantress and the Executioner from Asgard. They arrive on Earth, find Baron Zemo — still at large after the previous issue — and the three of them agree to work together, each for entirely different reasons. The Enchantress isn't especially interested in defeating the Avengers. She wants Thor.
Meanwhile the team is busy fracturing on its own. Iron Man is suspended for a week for failing to answer a call. Captain America catches Rick Jones wearing Bucky's old uniform and shuts it down hard, in a scene that has been quietly reverberating through Cap stories ever since. Loki turns up in a cameo, watching.
Stan Lee scripts, with Jack Kirby and Chic Stone on cover and interior art. The cover is one of the better compositions of the early run: Thor swinging his hammer at the center, the team scattered behind him, and the three villains crowded into the bottom of the frame like they've just walked into the wrong panel.
