A charming antique Christmas and New Year greeting postcard dating to December 1918, postmarked Providence, Rhode Island. The front features an elegant vertical Art Nouveau-style panel with a gold border, depicting a serene winter moonlit night scene — a snow-covered winding road flanked by evergreen trees, a small cottage with smoke rising from its chimney, and a full golden moon against a deep blue-teal sky. To the right of the illustration, decorative script reads: \'A Merry Christmas and many more, A happier New Year Than ever before.\' The overall aesthetic is consistent with the refined greeting card printing style popular during World War I era. This is a standard divided back printed lithograph postcard, catalog number No. 1141 noted in the lower left of the reverse. The card bears a red 2-cent U.S. postage stamp and a clear Providence, R.I. machine cancellation dated December 23, 1918 — just days before Christmas, making it historically evocative of the post-armistice holiday season. The card was sent from Bessie J. Munnzek to Miss Dorothea Ruoff at 27 Amy St., Providence — both sender and recipient appear to have been Providence locals, adding a nice touch of local social history. The correspondence side carries only the signature of the sender with no additional written message. Condition is Very Good. The card shows light toning consistent with its age, minor soiling to the lower front corner, and slight corner wear, but the image and text remain bright and clear. A lovely example of WWI-era Christmas ephemera with strong local provenance.
