• Artist (Pencils & Inks): Mark Texeira – An industry legend celebrated for his gritty, cinematic style and powerful anatomy. This early 1980s piece highlights the detailed linework, heavy blacks, and dynamic composition that would later make him a superstar on titles like Ghost Rider, Wolverine, and Sabretooth.
• Production / Editorial Credit: Romeo Tanghal – Tanghal's name is visibly handwritten in the right-hand margin of the art board. Romeo Tanghal is a legendary Filipino comic book artist, widely revered by collectors for his historic run inking George Pérez on The New Teen Titans during this exact early-1980s era. His notation on the margin links this piece to DC's core production team of the era.
• Writer: George Kashdan – A legendary, long-time DC Comics editor and writer who scripted hundreds of stories across DC's sci-fi, horror, and war anthologies.
• Letterer: Shelly Leferman – Acclaimed veteran DC letterer whose beautifully crafted, custom-designed title typography anchors the top of this splash page.

COMIC & STORY INFORMATION

• Title: "Legend of the Star-Spawn"
• Intended Series: This short story was originally created for DC’s renowned science-fiction anthology revival wave of the era, most likely intended to close out an issue of Mystery in Space right around its late-1981 cancellation (#117).
• Characters & Plot: The story opens on a futuristic starship or alien base, introducing a desperate space crew dealing with a catastrophic biological crisis. Notable panels depict cosmic explorers carrying an injured crew member, an alien environment, and dramatic tension as scientists analyze a deadly, mutating extraterrestrial germ threatening to wipe out an entire civilization.
• The "Page 47" Production Mark: The upper-right corner features the handwritten production mark "PAGE # 47." Because DC frequently bundled these sci-fi anthologies into extra-thick "Giant-Size" or "Dollar Comic" formats, this page was slated to be the final, high-impact "stinger" short story wrapping up the entire issue.
