Department56 Harry Potter Village, The Platform 9¾ & Hogsmeade Station Collection: Hogwarts\' Express Lit Train, Draco Waits at Platform 9¾,Retired & Rare, with Hogsmeade Station Lit Building & Seeing Wrackspurts, 4 Pieces, Brand New
Bothends of the most famous train journey in fiction, and a Malfoy sulking on theplatform for good measure. Mind the gap, and mind the barrier, it is solid onTuesdays.
Introduction
There is a moment every reader remembers with aparticular ache, and it is not a duel. It is a boy pushing a trolley at King\'sCross, looking for a platform that does not exist, being laughed at by a guard, and then watching a red-haired family stroll straight through a solid brickbarrier one after another. Percy first. Then the twins, bickering about whichone is which. Then Harry, running at a wall with his eyes shut because astranger told him to.
And on the other side, the Hogwarts Express.Scarlet, steaming, impossibly long, packed with owls and cats and trunks andshouting, and a woman with a trolley selling sweets that move. That train iswhere the whole series really starts: where Harry meets Ron over ChocolateFrogs and a rat, where Hermione appears in the doorway looking for a toad, andwhere a pale boy in the corridor offers a handshake and gets refused. Everyfriendship and every rivalry in seven books is set in the first hour of one trainride.
At the far end waits Hogsmeade Station, a tinywindswept platform in the dark where Hagrid\'s lamp swings above the crowd andthe first years are called away to the boats. It is the last ordinary placebefore the castle, the threshold between the world you came from and the worldyou are going to, and it is where the Dementors board in Prisoner of Azkabanand the temperature drops out of the whole book.
This sale brings that entire journey together:the train, the platform where it departs, the station where it arrives, andLuna showing Harry how to see the Wrackspurts through a pair of Spectrespecs. Two of these four pieces are long retired and genuinely scarce, and assemblingthis group any other way now means hunting each one down separately acrossmonths. Here it is in one lot, brand new in box, ready to run end to end acrossa shelf.
AboutDepartment 56
Founded in 1976, Department 56 is the goldstandard in collectible villages, celebrated for richly detailed, hand painted, illuminated buildings, animated accessories, and figure sets that blend fineartistry with storytelling. In 2018 the company launched its Harry PotterVillage line, recreating the most beloved corners of the Wizarding World, fromHogwarts Castle and Diagon Alley to Hogsmeade and Privet Drive, in meticulousminiature. Every piece is lifted straight from the books and films, ready to displaywith the craftsmanship and authenticity that serious collectors prize.
Broughtto Life by Department 56
Department 56 produced this journey as a set ofcoordinating pieces, and they are designed to be displayed as one run. TheHogwarts\' Express is the showpiece, a three-piece lighted train stretching over21 inches assembled, and it is scaled to pull into Hogsmeade Station at one endwith Draco Waits at Platform 9¾ standing at the other. Seeing Wrackspurts addsHarry and Luna to the platform crowd. All four pieces share the samehand-painted polyresin and stone powder finish and the same scale as the restof the Harry Potter Village line, so the group drops straight into an existingdisplay or anchors a new one.
ANote on Collector Value
Since 1976, one hallmark of Department 56 hasdefined the hobby: the annual retirement cycle. Each year a handful ofbuildings and figures are retired from every village line to make room for newdesigns, keeping the line fresh while creating the genuine scarcity that drivescollector value. Once a piece is retired the mold is set aside, supply stops, and demand shifts to the secondary market. Mint condition Department 56 pieceshave historically appreciated on the order of 20 to 30 percent on average, withiconic items climbing much higher, and for a culturally beloved line like HarryPotter that demand runs especially deep. Two of the four pieces here are thedifficult ones. The Hogwart\'s Express, Set of 3 and Draco Waits at Platform 9¾were both introduced in 2019 and retired in 2020, giving each a single year ofproduction, and brand-new boxed examples of either now surface rarely andthinly on the secondary market. Offering both together alongside the stationthey serve will make great additions to your Harry Potter Village collection.
