Storage might have caused some yellowing or toning.This postcard shows the entrance to Wompi Cave, a historic tourist attraction that was located on a farm near Watson, Iowa (in Clayton County, near the towns of Monona and McGregor).The cave was opened as a commercial show cave in the 1930s by a local farmer named Gerald Mielke. It was quite popular during that decade—so much so that the local roadway past the nearby, yet-undeveloped Spook Cave was originally known as Wompi Cave Road. The cave was named \"Wompi\" (meaning \"dark and deep\") to honor the Ho-Chunk (Winnebago) Tribe, whose chief Whirling Thunder once had a village nearby.
