Vintage Grove Park Inn Asheville NC Postcard
Here we have a fantastic head on shot of the legendary Grove Park Inn out in Asheville North Carolina. The photographer framed this one perfectly to show off that massive undulating red roof stretching across the entire granite stone structure. There is a ton of wild brush and tall grass in the foreground giving the whole scene a really rugged mountain feel before the property was completely manicured and modernized. It really captures that classic midcentury resort vibe perfectly.
Condition wise this card has actually seen some real travel. It was mailed back in the mid 1950s using a bright red two cent Thomas Jefferson stamp. You will see the expected corner wear and some edge bumps from its journey through the postal system. The back features a nice little cursive note from someone who was attending a conference at the inn and taking side trips out to see Fontana Dam. The handwriting is large and fairly easy to read making it a neat little slice of travel history for your collection.
As an authentic vintage piece, this item may show typical signs of age, which can include minor edge wear, soft or bumped corners, slight yellowing, and light surface blemishes. Please carefully examine all provided high-resolution photos for the most accurate and definitive representation of the item\'s condition prior to purchasing. Trivia Corner
You can not miss that massive red roof dominating the photo but there is a wild reason it looks the way it does. The builders specifically designed it to mimic the organic swooping look of a traditional English thatched roof. However because they needed it to be completely fireproof they could not actually use thatch. They ended up using a crazy combination of concrete asphalt and red clay tiles creating a protective cap that is an unbelievable three feet thick in some places.
