Heavy Metal 15 Years Special 1992 15th Anniversary Fantasy Anthology For Sale

15 Years of Heavy Metal – 15th Anniversary Special – 1992

Fifteen years after Heavy Metal began importing European comics, science fiction, fantasy, eroticism and general illustrated bad behavior into American newsstands, the magazine stopped long enough to look backward.

This is the 1992 “15 Years of Heavy Metal” anniversary anthology, a specially produced retrospective rather than a standard monthly issue.

The collection draws from the artists and creators who established Heavy Metal as one of the defining illustrated fantasy magazines of its era. Contemporary Heavy Metal advertising described it as a hand-picked anthology showcasing memorable contributors, including Richard Corben, Torres, Joost Swarte, Serpieri and Angus McKie, among others.

And then there is that back cover: an extraordinarily Heavy-Metal-ish fantasy tableau of armored figures, creatures, banners and spears surrounding a shield emblazoned “on passe pas.” It is precisely the sort of artwork that explains why people who haven\'t bought an ordinary magazine in thirty years still collect Heavy Metal.

Vintage pre-owned condition with expected shelf, handling and storage wear. The supplied high-resolution scans show the actual copy offered and should be considered the primary condition description. Colors remain strong and the book presents very nicely for a publication now more than three decades old.

An excellent standalone piece for a Heavy Metal collection, European-comics library, fantasy-art collection, or anyone assembling the magazine\'s important specials and retrospectives rather than simply chasing the monthly run.

Bagged, boarded, protected between stiffeners.
