c1950s Klamath Falls Oregon Child Portrait Ferrebee-Kessler Studio PhotoDescription:
Charming original black-and-white studio portrait of a two-year-old boy, photographed byFerrebee-Kessler Studio of Klamath Falls, Oregon. The child is seated on a simple stepped studio prop and wears a knitted short romper with contrasting trim, ankle socks, and small lace-up shoes. His carefully combed hair, animated expression, and relaxed pose make this a particularly appealing example of mid-century childhood portrait photography.
The reverse bears the photographer’s purple studio stamp:“FEREBEE-KESSLER STUDIO / U.S. NATIONAL BANK BLDG., KLAMATH FALLS, ORE.”The U.S. National Bank Building was a prominent downtown Klamath Falls commercial building, and the studio imprint firmly establishes the photograph’s local origin.
A handwritten inscription at the top of the reverse identifies the child by first name, although the handwriting is not entirely clear; it appears to read approximately“Harrel”or a similar name. The inscription continues“2 years old / Nov. 7th.”No year is written on the photograph. Based on the portrait style, photographic paper, deckle-cut edges, clothing, and studio presentation, the image appears to date from approximately the late 1940s to 1950s.
The portrait is a strong piece of Klamath Falls local history as well as an attractive record of mid-century children’s clothing and professional studio photography. The Ferrebee-Kessler studio imprint adds particular interest for collectors of Oregon photographers, Klamath County history, identified family photographs, children’s portraits, and vernacular or studio photography.
