Issued during the Red Cross WarFund campaigns of 1918, when the American Red Cross mobilized millions ofvolunteers and dollars to support U.S. troops in France. Grant, best known as amarine painter (his painting of the USS Constitution hung in the White House),contributed several designs to the war effort; this is his best-known Red Crossimage.
