Offered is an exceptional matched pair of antique German bronze relief plaques by renowned sculptor Gustav Grohe (1829–1906).
These beautifully executed Renaissance Revival portraits depict a gentleman and lady in elaborate period costume, each rendered in deep relief with remarkable facial detail, richly textured clothing, and decorative backgrounds enclosed within a classic beaded border.
Both plaques bear Grohe's signature cast into the edge of the relief, identifying them as authentic works by one of Germany's noted late 19th-century sculptors.
Originally designed as decorative wall plaques or architectural ornaments, they make an outstanding addition to any collection of European bronzes, Renaissance Revival décor, or Victorian decorative arts.
