"The turn of the century marked the beginning of a golden era for the Robeson company, characterized by rapid expansion and iconic brand innovations. In 1901, the company adopted its most famous trademark, ShurEdge. Millard Robeson passed away in 1903, but the company’s trajectory continued upward under the leadership of his son, George Robeson, and his son-in-law, P.A. Oliver.Operating out of the Perry plant while maintaining corporate and shipping offices in Rochester, New York, the company merged with the Rochester Stamping Company in 1922 to form the Robeson-Rochester Corporation. During these booming decades, Robeson became internationally known for offering an astonishing variety of over 1,200 distinct knife patterns. The company distinguished itself from its larger competitors through mechanical innovations and premium materials. They patented the Pocketeze line, featuring recessed blade backs that prevented the knives from wearing out trouser pockets, and developed the MasterCraft line, which utilized unique bronze tang bearings to reduce wear and to facilitate a smoother opening action.
Despite Robeson’s stellar reputation and a legendary lifetime guarantee to repair or replace any unsatisfactory knife, the mid-twentieth century brought severe economic headwinds. The Great Depression hammered cutlery sales, and by 1940, the company faced bankruptcy."
