This exceptional cocktail shaker's Streamline Moderne design features etched parallel speed lines wrapped around the two globes separated by a smooth frosted stretch of glass – all direct reflections of aerodynamic streamlining.
The NYC dealer I purchased this cocktail shaker from in 1988 attributed it to the renowned American manufacturer of fine cut, engraved tableware,T. G. Hawkes & Co. of Corning, NY (1880-1962).
t is often (mistakenly?) attributed to the West Virginia Specialty Glass Company – but much unlike the thin, fragile, smooth glass and thin, lesser-quality chrome hardware of the West Virginia Specialty Glass Company cocktail shakers, this cocktail shaker's glass is much thicker, adorned with fine, precision-cut engraved lines (a Hawkes specialty), a frosted glass "handle" for a better grip, and MUCH heavier/thicker, higher-quality chrome fittings.
12" tall and 4" wide. Three-piece shaker includes a multi-tiered collar top with self-strainer and cap. THIS COCKTAIL SHAKER INCLUDES THE STAND (not original to the shaker) SO IT CAN BE SAFELY DISPLAYED VERTICALLY.
A coveted part of my personal vintage barware collection for nearly 40 years, this item has been very well cared for.
