RARE Vintage 18” Hawaiian Hula Girl Paper Mache Figures Pair Folk Art
Circa 1940s/50s
These are premium souvenirs featuring classic gloss finish paper mache construction, beautiful hand-painted detailing, vibrant synthetic grass skirts, in addition to neck, wrist and ankle leis. One figure wears a green skirt in a classic hula pose and the other has a yellow skirt and plays the ukulele.
They remain in very good condition overall. The girl in yellow has some separation in the material on her right foot. If you wanted to glue it, you could, but it seems ok and I’m leaving it as is.
It appears that these dolls used to have hooks and/or strings on their heads for hanging. There is still a piece of string remaining on one.
