This particular unit is the German export version, featuring a QWERTZ keyboard layout and the ability to type German characters plus some French characters.[Servicing]
This unit had some malfunctions caused by age-related wear and missing/damaged parts. It was disassembled as far as possible to fix these issues, and rust and grime were cleaned off. Lubrication was applied to restore smooth typing operation. Remaining rust, scratches, and general signs of use could not be fully removed, but a rust-inhibiting coating has been applied to slow further corrosion and wear.
The original wire that moves the carriage was a cord-type material, which carries a high risk of breaking with age. It has been replaced with a substitute metal wire for improved long-term durability.
Parts of the paper feed mechanism, paper bail, and the protective base pads had deteriorated and have been partially replaced with new, commercially available substitute parts.[Functionality Check]
All operations and functions were checked and confirmed working with no issues. Typing action is smooth, and the end-of-line bell sound also works correctly. As the machine has not been used for an extended period, there is some inherent risk of issues arising with continued/heavy use, but normal typing operation is currently smooth.
A brand-new ribbon has been rewound onto the genuine spool and installed (standard commercially available spools are not compatible with this machine — the ribbon must be rewound onto the genuine spool). Some characters print slightly less clearly than others, and when printing in red, some black ink occasionally mixes in, but all text remains legible. The frame had significant rust and paint loss, so it has been repainted in a color close to the original. Some color unevenness, scratches, and general wear remain.[Case]
Major damage such as cracks and peeling on the case has been repaired. The handle had cracked leather, which has been treated with a leather repair compound. A protective wax has been applied overall to help slow further deterioration, though some dirt, scratches, and general wear remain.
Please note: the lock mechanism is somewhat loose, and the handle leather has some degradation — this typewriter may not be ideal for carrying over long distances/periods. Please use with this in mind.[What\'s Included]
