The March on Boston Information Sheet w/ Student Nonviolent ButtonOriginal typed instruction sheet for marchers in a civil rights demonstration in Boston, with a vintage "Student Nonviolent" "We Shall..." pinback button. Offered together as a set.The button is a well known classic. The sheet is extremely rare and may be a lone survivor of this important organizer’s document.Organizer’s sheet: Typed on pale green paper, titled "Information Sheet: The March on Boston." It gives bus departures for Friday, April 23 (Ellis Square, Beverly at 7:30 a.m.; St. Stephen's Church, South Common St., Lynn at 8:00 a.m.), with return around 4:00 p.m. It tells marchers to bring signs appropriate to the non-violent movement, to form community groups "integrated if at all possible," and to bring non-spoilable lunches and canteens. It says marshals will remove inappropriate signs. It states that "this is not a rally, but a non-violent protest." Transportation instructions cover Carter Playground The button: Black and white pinback reading "Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee – We Shall Overcome." and the Boston Common. A contact is listed: F.E. Vilas, Jr.The sheet and button have survived together in the Boston area since 1965. They were obviously saved by someone who was involved with the event. A program to the march (featuring Martin Luther King on the cover) also originally accompanied. I bought all three to get the program (I collect programs) and am selling the remaining two items.
