Ultra Rare Museum Display Edaphosaurus Sail Spine Vertebra Bone Fossil Permian For Sale

Here we have a cool display piece, a vertebra with a complete sail spine from one of the contemporaries of the famous Dimetrodon known as the Edaphosaurus, spines from experience are always ULTRA FRAGILE and they always BREAK for me in shipping and handling. This particular piece fixes the biggest issue with this kind of fossil as it is affixed to a matrix piece meaning now there is no worry about having a spine that always breaks super easily when moving it around or having it arrive to you in broken pieces that are difficult to repair back. This one you can impressively display proudly in your collection without worry! This fossil was found in the Permian age (280 million year old) Ryan Formation near Waurika Oklahoma and has museum style restoration/coating/stabilization work done to it as without it these type of pieces would fall apart easily. The presence of the nodes on the spine is what distinguishes this from a spine section of Dimetrodon.

Many do not know that Edaphosaurus is an important fossil as it is one of the earliest known large plant-eating amniote tetrapods meaning four legged and  land living vertebrates. A number of other synapsids from the same time period also have tall dorsal sails, most famously the large apex predator Dimetrodon. However, the sail spine on Edaphosaurus is different in shape and morphology. Dimetrodon's is straighter and comes to more of a point at the center. More important Edaphosaurus was certainly a prey item on the Dimetrodons menu. Having this on display with a Dimetrodon spine which I do also offer would be a treat for any fossil collector/museum who wants a killer permain display. So heres your chance to own or gift an impressive and notable permain fossil bone!
