Unusual vintage 1940sā1950s floral handkerchief-print textile, assembled from multiple strips of commercially printed fabric featuring individual handkerchief-style square designs.
The fabric features a wonderful variety of period floral patterns including roses, bouquets, ribbons, bows, scalloped borders and small flowers in dusty pink, coral, red, cream, blue-gray and navy.
The individual strips were sewn together by the original owner's grandmother, creating the larger textile shown. The horizontal seams joining the strips are part of its original family-made construction.
The printed squares appear consistent with mid-century handkerchief-print cloth / uncut handkerchief stock, possibly inexpensive commercial piece goods, remnants or factory/jobber material intended to be cut into individual hankies. No manufacturer name or selvage markings have been found, so the maker is unknown and no specific manufacturer is being attributed.
A particularly interesting survivor for collectors of vintage textiles, sewing material, handkerchiefs, feedsack-era fabrics, mid-century prints or repurposed family-made textiles.
Vintage condition with age-related wear, fading, discoloration and irregularities as visible in the photos. This is a hand-sewn assembled textile rather than one continuous factory-printed piece of yardage. Please review all photographs carefully for construction, pattern variation and condition.
Sold intact as found ā the individual strips have not been separated. My grandmother made this. Found in Mom's cedar chest.
