Design & Craftsmanship
The centerpiece depicts two women dressed in Colonial-style gowns and bonnets enjoying tea at a pedestal table. The domestic scene is enhanced by a stitched window and framed picture, giving the design wonderful period charm.
The motif is worked in fine, hand-executed cross-stitch embroidery using striking black cotton embroidery floss against a crisp beige linen background. The monochromatic black-on-linen design creates the distinctive silhouette appearance popular in early-to-mid-20th-century decorative needlework.
The tablecloth and coordinating napkins are beautifully finished with a delicate drawn-thread hemstitch border, an attractive detail associated with quality household linens of the period.
Condition
The linen retains excellent structural integrity. As with any vintage textile of this age, please review all photographs carefully for the best representation of condition. All measurements are approximate.
Collector & Decorator Note
Complete vintage embroidered linen sets with their coordinating napkins are increasingly desirable, particularly when they feature charming figural scenes. The Colonial tea-party imagery makes this set especially attractive for collectors of vintage linens, traditional needlework, Colonial Revival decor, tea-room accessories, and cottage or farmhouse textiles.
