Original Vintage Photograph – Douglas C-33 Military Transport, S/N 36-70
Exceptional original vintage photograph showing a Douglas C-33 military transport aircraft, serial number 36-70, of the U.S. Army Air Corps.
The aircraft in the foreground can be positively associated with C-33 S/N 36-70 by the prominent “70” marking on the nose. The C-33 was a rare military cargo derivative of the Douglas DC-2, developed for the Army Air Corps with a reinforced cabin floor, enlarged vertical tail and large cargo-loading door.
This photograph shows the aircraft parked on an early-era American airfield alongside several other C-33 transports. The U.S. Army Air Corps star insignia is clearly visible on the wing, while an airport elevation tower marked “ELEV. 410 FT.” appears in the background.
The C-33 was introduced in the mid-1930s and only 18 examples were constructed, making photographs documenting individual aircraft particularly interesting to aviation historians and collectors. Contemporary U.S. Air Force records identify S/N 36-70 as the first C-33 built.
A particularly desirable image for collectors of early U.S. Army Air Corps aviation, Douglas aircraft, DC-2 history, pre-WWII military transportation and historic American airports.
