Up for sale is a Holy Grail piece of vintage Southern automotive memorabilia: an authentic, mid-century Tennessee \"State Shape\" license plate frame featuring a bold \"MEMPHIS\" header.
Custom-engineered to perfectly contour the iconic geographic silhouette of vintage Tennessee license plates, these state-shaped frames are among the most intensely hunted accessories in the entire automobilia hobby.
The Manufacturer Pedigree:
Turn this frame over, and you will find the legendary maker\'s mark stamped directly into the casting: \"MADE BY SO. CALIF. PLATING CO. 4444 SUNSET BLVD. HOLLYWOOD.\" Southern California Plating Company was the undisputed pioneer of die-cast frame manufacturing, dressing up elite hot rods, custom cruisers, and celebrity cars right from the heart of Sunset Boulevard. Frames bearing this specific Hollywood address are highly prized by collectors worldwide.
Condition & Patina Details:
• Structural Integrity: Unlike most surviving pot metal or zinc alloy frames from the 1950s, this frame has NO cracks, NO welds, and NO broken mounting tabs. Also has two of the original mounting bolts/nuts.
• Honest Vintage Patina: The original chrome finish has completely weathered away over the decades, leaving a gorgeous, uniform matte-grey raw metal patina. This honest, unrestored look is exactly what high-end traditional hot rod builders, rat-rod enthusiasts, and preservation-class collectors look for. It cannot be faked!
• The Memphis Premium: The stamped \"MEMPHIS\" block text at the top adds massive regional appeal, making this an elite crossover collectible for Bluff City historians and local car enthusiasts alike.
Whether you are looking to dress up an unrestored 1950s show car, mount it over a vintage state-shaped plate, or hang a piece of pure Hollywood-cast Americana on your garage wall, this is an investment-grade survivor that rarely hits the open market.
