This heavy, handcrafted and sculpted container was found in a nearby estate sale. Its weight, color, textured and design would likely indicate a Toyo Trading Company import from early during the 1960-1970. The maker\'s hanko would be consistent as Toyo would employ, buy and distribute independent production by artists and kilns. It is classic design is adapted to most all ikebana schools use a raised or pedestal container as well as any free-style, floral arrangement for any reason, season or occasion. We have found many ikebana containers during our travels in Japan and the mainland as well as trips back to the Islands. They are displayed at home, used and lent for ikebana lessons, demonstrations and exhibitions. The first three and last picture were taken with a black felt background with workroom lighting and the pictures in between were taken in a camera tent except for the two computer scan at 360 dpi of the base and hanko; the empty Asahi bottle is not for sale, but to illustrate the relative size of the container.
