Vintage Pine Needles Golf Club Presentation / Award Plate ā Southern Pines, NCOffered is a substantial vintage metal presentation plate featuring the historic Pine Needles golf crest with crossed golf clubs, golf balls and pine needles in raised relief. The plate measures approximately 10.25 inches in diameter and weighs 1 lb. 5 oz. It bears an RWP maker\'s mark, associated with Wilton, along with an additional pictorial touchmark on the front rim.Based on its history, construction and family provenance, I believe this piece dates to approximately the 1960sā1970s.Interesting provenance: This belonged to my father, who traveled to North Carolina annually during this period to attend the furniture market. He played golf during those trips, including at Pine Needles. Family history suggests this plate may have been presented as an award or memento from a company- or furniture-industry-organized golf outing. I have not been able to document the specific tournament, so that portion of its history is offered as family provenance rather than a confirmed attribution.Pine Needles in Southern Pines, North Carolina is one of the historic golf destinations of the Sandhills. Its Donald Ross-designed course dates to 1928 and has subsequently hosted major championship golf. The plate displays beautifully, with a polished outer rim surrounding the darker cast-relief center. It has normal surface marks, scratches and signs of age/use consistent with a piece approximately 50+ years old. Please examine the photographs carefully as they are part of the description.A particularly unusual piece of vintage Pine Needles, North Carolina golf and Donald Ross memorabilia, with a great period connection to the North Carolina furniture industry.Approximate measurements10.25\" diameter1 lb. 5 oz.Vintage condition.
