Beautiful, one-of-a-kind vintage 1984 hand-carved wood sculpture featuring two intertwined giraffes. This organic folk art piece was masterfully sculpted by artist W.J. Kolff using natural Maple Roots collected from the Mill Creek area in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The artist beautifully utilized the natural bends, curves, and knots of the root system to mimic the long necks and natural contours of the giraffes. The figures are mounted to a smooth, finished wooden display base and feature small, dark bead eyes. The bottom of the base is fully handwritten, dated, and signed by the artist. A spectacular conversation piece for any collector of rustic decor, organic modern style, or local Utah art history.
Condition:
Good vintage condition. No notable chips, cracks, or damage to the carvings or the structural base. Neck is slightly wobbly on one giraffe. Tail on one also moves but is secure. Features beautiful natural wood variations, grains, and splits inherent to the organic root material used. Please examine all photos to appreciate the stunning woodwork details.
