Vintage Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Steam Locomotive Photograph Album – 92 Photos
Offered here is a fascinating homemade vintage photograph album devoted to the steam locomotives of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (B&O).
The album contains 92 photographs, primarily black-and-white locomotive photographs, along with some railroad postcards/images. Many of the photographs have accompanying handwritten or typewritten notes identifying and documenting the locomotives.
The original collector appears to have carefully researched the engines represented in the album. Information recorded throughout includes locomotive numbers and classes, wheel arrangements, dates, locomotive weights, tractive power, steam pressure, builders and rebuilding information, and locations where particular locomotives were photographed or operated.
Examples visible in the album include B&O locomotives from several different classes and eras, with photographs identified from the 1930s, 1940s and later. Some notes also document changes in locomotive classifications and rebuilding history.
One particularly nice feature is the introductory typed passage inside the front of the album celebrating the steam locomotive and remembering the great engines that had disappeared from the rails.
This is an original, privately assembled collector’s album, not a commercially published B&O photo book. The combination of 92 photographs and the original collector’s research gives it considerably more character and historical interest than a loose group of unidentified railroad photographs.
Album and contents show age and storage wear consistent with a vintage homemade collection. Pages, photographs, notes and protective sheets may show toning, spotting, handling wear, marks and other age-related imperfections. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition.
