Beautiful vintage-style Chinese dragon and phoenix inkstone / scholar’s desk piece featuring exceptionally detailed raised relief decoration.
This substantial piece measures approximately 7” x 4 3/4” and weighs an impressive 2 lbs. 7.5 oz. It consists of two fitted pieces, with an elaborate dragon and phoenix design covering the exterior and a smooth recessed inkstone-style surface beneath the decorative cover.
The piece appears to be made from a heavy cast resin or mineral-composite material, rather than natural carved stone. The weight and detailed casting give it a substantial, stone-like feel.
The dragon and phoenix motif is beautifully rendered throughout, with clouds, scales, feathers and other traditional Asian-inspired details creating a striking three-dimensional appearance. It displays extremely well and would make a great addition to an Asian art collection, calligraphy display, scholar’s desk, office or library.
