This box is a vintage Japanese drawer box made in the 1940\'s & 50\'s as souvenirs for returning servicemen & tourists. The central design depicts Mount Fuji with trees and traditional structures.The Decoration (Yosegi-zaiku / Hakone Marquetry): This is the geometric, colorful wooden pattern on the outside of the box. It is made by gluing different colored wood rods together into a block and slicing them into thin veneers.Hakone Region: The mountainous area in Japan where these souvenir trick boxes originated in the late 19th century and continue to be crafted.Box is 3.5 inches x 3 inches in size.Please ask any questions before you buy.
