Vintage Japanese Young Monk Drinking Sake Resin Okimono Signed Matsuyama: $29.99
Vintage Japanese-style okimono depicting a humorous scene of a young Buddhist monk or temple novice who cannot resist drinking sake.
The smiling bald monk sits on a woven mat while embracing a large ribbed sake jar, with a small drinking cup placed beside him. The jar bears the character 春, meaning “spring.” His robe and the surrounding surfaces are decorated with finely incised floral and geometric designs.
The underside bears a 松山 signature, generally read as “Matsuyama.” Constructed from an ivory-tone resin or ivorine-type composite material; it is not being represented as genuine ivory.
Measures approximately 4 1/4 inches by 2 5/8 inches by 2 1/2 inches. The underside shows scratches and general wear from previous display and handling. Please review all photos carefully for the complete condition.
