Vintage NYCS New York Central System Railroad Axe Single Bit Custom Handle 30 in For Sale

Vintage single bit axe stamped NYCS for the New York Central System railroad, hung on a custom handle.

- NYCS ownership stamp is large, deep, and easy to read

- No maker's mark that I can find

- Single bit head with a squared poll

- Whole axe weighs 4 lb 4.6 oz on my scale

- About 30 in overall length

- Custom wood handle with a dark wood wedge, stained swell, and inlaid dot

- Head is [tight] on the handle

- Cutting edge is [sharp]

Condition: This is an old railroad working axe that has been cleaned up and rehung. The head has dark patina with light pitting. The poll shows some mushrooming along the edge from being struck. The handle is a later replacement, not original to the axe. All wear is shown in the photos.
