Up for sale is an authentic, striking Tschäggättä mask, hand-carved in the traditional style of the Lötschental valley in Switzerland.
This piece captures the powerful, primal energy of the ancient Alpine winter carnival (Fastnacht), where participants wear these terrifying visages to scare away cold weather and evil spirits.
Design, Craftsmanship & Markings:
This mask features incredibly expressive, deeply grooved split-face features carved directly into the timber.
It is beautifully adorned with dense, long-stranded natural animal fleece (black and white tones) and features genuine animal teeth embedded into the open, roaring mouths.
The reverse side of the mask features an integrated hanging loop for seamless wall display.
