Ultra Rare Vintage 1930s Walt Disney Dopey Dwarf Hand Puppet Pair - Crown Toy Mfg. Co.
An absolute holy grail for vintage Disneyana and antique toy collectors!
This listing features an incredibly rare matching pair of late-1930s Walt Disney \"Dopey\" Dwarf hand puppets manufactured by the Crown Toy Mfg. Co.
Historical Context & Rarity: Following the groundbreaking 1937 release of \"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,\" the Crown Toy Manufacturing Company was licensed to produce composition-head hand puppets of the beloved characters. While the standard peach-toned Dopey puppet is a highly sought-after collectible today, the dark-toned variant included in this pair is an exceptionally scarce piece of historical Disneyana. During the late 1930s, Crown Toy Co. produced a very limited run of these alternative colorway variants. Finding both versions together—especially with the crisp, authentic maker\'s marks intact—makes this an extraordinary investment opportunity for serious Disney or antique toy archives. Markings: Both puppets are clearly embossed on the lower back of the neck with the rare early licensing mark: \"WALT DISNEY ENT. CROWN TOY\" Physical Details: - Head Material: Antique Composition (molded reinforced papier-mâché/sawdust mix) - Features: Hand-painted detailing, expressive molded ears, classic blue eyes, and bright red smiles. - Outfits: Original mid-century green felt cloth tunic bodies accented with red cuffs. Condition Report (Please Study Photos Carefully): These puppets are roughly 85 to 90 years old. Because antique composition material is highly sensitive to temperature, moisture, and time, structural wear is expected: - Light-Skinned Dopey: In good vintage condition for its age. Displays typical fine surface crazing across the face, cheeks, and back of the head, but maintains excellent paint retention with no major missing chunks. - Dark-Skinned Dopey: Displays more advanced age wear. There is a prominent flaked section of the dark topcoat missing from the upper back of the skull, exposing the lighter base composition material underneath. Additionally, deep stress cracks are present along the rear left ear seam, with fine crazing throughout. - Fabric Outfits: Both original felt bodies are completely intact. They show expected vintage fading, light shelf dust, and edge wear consistent with age, but have no major structural holes or tears. These items are being sold as a historical collector\'s set in \"as-is\" vintage condition. Please examine all high-resolution photos closely, as they serve as the primary description of condition.
