WWI US Army M1917 Cotton Summer Tunic Unissued Philadelphia Depot Chalk MarksOriginal U.S. Army Model 1917 cotton summer tunic in exceptionally well-preserved, unissued condition. It retains the seamstress’s chalk markings on the interior panels, together with its original Philadelphia Depot Quartermaster inspection label.Made from olive-khaki cotton twill, the tunic features a standing collar with hook-and-eye closure, buttoned shoulder straps, a five-button front, and four external patch pockets with shaped, buttoned flaps. Darkened U.S. Army eagle buttons are present on the front, pockets, and shoulder straps.The sewn cloth label reads:PHILA. DEPOT Q. M. DEPT. U. S. ARMY Inspected byFaint inspection markings remain on the label. White chalk numbers and construction marks are clearly visible across several interior fabric panels, preserving an especially interesting detail of the tunic’s manufacture. Additional colored markings remain inside.The cotton retains a crisp appearance, with well-defined twill, neatly finished seams, and sharply defined buttonholes.
