A fascinating piece of Pacific Theater history: an original World War II Japanese wooden mortar fuse box, complete with incredible, specific veteran provenance.This historic crate features dual provenance markers on the inside lid: an older handwritten tape label and a meticulously detailed typed archival label. According to the records inside, this box was picked up on Los Negros in the Admiralty Islands in March 1944 by USN Seaman Henry \"Pete\" Nash. This places the item directly at the center of the intense Admiralty Islands campaign, a strategic operation led by General Douglas MacArthur to isolate the major Japanese base at Rabaul.\"Bring-back\" souvenirs with this level of exact combat provenance, dates, and named U.S. servicemen are highly desirable and increasingly difficult to find.
